Fattoria Montecchio is located in the village of San Donato in Poggio, in the Chianti Classico wine zone. In 1973, the Nuti Family purchased this estate formerly owned by the famous Torrigiani family who ran a successful wine business at the property since the 1300’s. Ivo Nuti, along with his wife Maria and three sons, Andrea, Fabrizio and Riccardo decided to restore it to its old splendor. They renovated the main house, and after extensive agronomic and geological investigations, a brand new winery was built and new vines were planted. Today, Fafforia Montecchio is a very-well respected winery in Tuscany producing truly unique wines.
A great care and nod to the past is taken in the cellar, where Fattoria Montecchio’s Chianti Classico is made in the same way it was done 400 years ago: Chianti-style refermentation, strictly in oak barrels. This CB Chianti was aged approx. 12 months in 25 hl wooden barrels. All of the wines are made by Stefano Di Blasi, a veteran consulting winemaker in Tuscany.
