SICILY
Mazara del Vallo, the most important fishing centre in Italy, has a great naturalistic value for the richness of the coasts and the varieties of agriculture, among which grapes and olives are the most representative. In the ancient time, Mazara was an important port, contended from many populations for its position. All theses changes of dominations are visible today in names, dialect, costumes, in the urban planning of the city and in its archeological treasures. In the Sicilian Channel, a fish boat from Mazara founded Satiro Danzante, a very big bronze statue of IV century B.C., which represented a nude satyr in a whirling pace of dance. It could be that this satyr was just a part of other satyr's statues, in the act of dancing in honour of Dionysus, god of wine.
